What happened?

In 2006, the Turkish government ratified a new law that forced all mobile phones used (past and future) in Turkey to be registered. This meant that any mobile phone that was going to be used with a Turkish SIM card (ie. BlueSim) would have to be registered to the Turkish customs.

It is a cumbersome policy that may have its merits in theory but is very impractical (and therefore unseen elsewhere). Any tourist coming to Turkey with their mobile devices with the intend of using it with a Turkish SIM card has to go through a long paperwork process; not ideal for any tourist.

This had its impact on our product, which we had lost our confident in selling due to no fault of our own (or the product) but simply because the law maker having overlooked the tourist market. As a result, we had to withdraw our product from the market. The fact that this also meant that a significant loss of tax income for the Turkish state seems to have gone unnoticed and so far, nobody has acted on this fact to simply regulate the market and resolve this matter.
